October gives us many things to smile about: gorgeous fall foliage, the excitement of the holiday season fast approaching, and the spooky fun of Halloween. But did you know that October is also National Orthodontic Health Month? Well, it is! 🙂

This annual observance was created by the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) to increase the public’s awareness of the many health benefits of orthodontic treatment.

It’s fairly obvious that having a healthy, beautiful smile will result in increased confidence and self-esteem (reason enough to consider orthodontic treatment), but what many don’t realize is that teeth and/or jaws that are out of alignment can cause many health problems, including:

CHRONIC HEADACHES

DIGESTIVE ISSUES

CUTS OR SORES IN THE MOUTH (which could become infected)

TOOTH INJURY, DECAY AND LOSS

GUM DISEASE (which has long been linked to heart disease)

In short, the value of orthodontic treatment extends far beyond aesthetics. If you’ve been considering orthodontics for you or child, now is a perfect time to schedule your free consultation and exam with Dr. Irwin at Vancouver Orthodontic Specialists!

We will be happy to answer any questions you may have, and if treatment is necessary we will develop a customized plan that caters to your unique orthodontic needs, lifestyle, and budget. Email us today or call 360.883.6713 to get started.
